Danny Jansen will make history Monday afternoon at Fenway Park. Jansen will become the first player in MLB, to play for both teams in the same game when the Red Sox (his current team), resume their suspended game against the Blue Jays (his former team). On Monday we will have the resumption of the game that began on June 26 and was suspended due to rain in the second inning. Jansen started the game behind the plate for the Blue Jays, and a month later he was traded to the Red Sox, whose manager has already confirmed that this player will play in the restart.

This situation does not violate the rules, the issue has already been studied and analyzed in detail.

The only similar precedent occurred in the Mexican League in 1963 in a game between the Mexico City Tigres and Pericos de Puebla: The Tigres’ starting pitcher was Mauro Ruiz and when the fifth inning was played there was a blackout due to a failure in the electricity and could no longer continue. Four weeks later, Mauro Ruiz was traded and his contract was sold to the Pericos de Puebla.

The two teams finished in first place in the standings and were forced to resume the game to break a tie in the standing. At the time of the restart, the Tigres were leading 3-2, but Puebla had left two men on base.

Before starting the restart, Mauro Ruiz replaced the previous Pericos pitcher, he was already the Puebla pitcher when it resumed. Then the first batter of his new team connected a base hit, driving in the two runs that were on base, in such a way that Puebla turned the score around, taking a 4-3 lead and at that moment leaving Ruiz as the pitcher who was losing the game for the Tigers.

Pericos maintained the advantage and won. The official scorer reported at the end: “Winning pitcher: Mauro Ruiz… Defeated pitcher: Mauro Ruiz! True, believe it or not!
